The Chief End of Man
Series Westminster Shorter Catechism
WSC #1: What is the chief end of man? Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever.
Aim: To glorify God for restoring the church as the image bearer of God and enjoy Him forever in Christ.
Doctrine: To determine the end, go to the source. Our actions are driven by our heart; God provides His word in part to expose our heart; when things are difficult, we trust in God's plans.
Exposition: Man as God's moon: life, ''according to its kind'' (vv. 24-25); man, according to God's likeness (vv. 26-27); God, according to creation mandate (vv. 28-31).
Application: To determine the end, go to the source. Look at our own image, love God's perfect image, and live in the church.
Key verse: v. 27 ''So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.''
