A Good and Faithful Servant
Series Cultivating Faith
The servant in our narrative is good and faithful, but he has moments of doubt. We identify with that. We don't know his name, but we do know his heart ...his service. Then he simply fades to black. He is something we aspire to as we cultivate a life of faith. Jesus will say some 2000 years after this event: "Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord" (Matthew 25.21, 23). It is a privilege to serve and bring blessing and joy to the Lord Jesus Christ. As we serve, He opens up opportunities for us to do even more in the future. He looks not at what we do, but whether or not we were faithful to what He gave us to do. As we cultivate lives of faith, quantity is never the goal; faithfulness is. Paul wrote to the Corinthians, "Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Morever it is required in stewards that one be found faithful" (1 Corinthians 4.1-2).
