Deliverance, Eschatology and the Kingdom of God
Series Binding the strong man
Eschatology is the study of last things and in this passage Jesus is saying that the proclamation of the good news of the Kingdom of God is His purpose. It is His predestined purpose to explain the Kingdom of God.
The one thing you can tangibly look at in this world and conclusively prove that there is a God and He Has Sovereignly Elected a future people for Himself that will come out of the nation of Israel, is in fact 1948, and the re-establishment of the nation of Israel, which fulfilled prophecy!
There are several views of the Kingdom of God and when it would come.
But what was the OT's view of the coming Good news of the Kingdom?
The expression “the kingdom of God” is not found in the OT, but the idea appears throughout. References are found in the following passages to God's kingship and rule Ex 15:18; Nm 23:21;Is 43:15 and God claims rule over the whole Earth 2 Kgs 19:15; Pss 29:10; 47:2; 93:1-2;96:10; 97:1–9; 99:1–4; 145:11–13; Is 6:5; Jer 46:18). The OT promises a day when God will become the earthly King and rule all His people and all Earth(Is 24:23; 33:22; 52:7; Ob 21; Zep 3:15; Zec 14:9–11).According to Bakers encyclopedia
"the idea of God’s kingship provides the outline for the entire OT concept. While God is King over all the earth, he is in a special way King over his people, Israel. God’s rule is therefore something realized in Israel’s history. However, it is only partially and imperfectly realized.
Israel again and again rebelled against the divine sovereignty."
Zechariah 12:10-12 13:1–9 and 14:9-11 tell of God cutting off and restoring a future Israel They will look upon Him whom they have pierced. Clearly a prophetic promise.
