What is Kindness?
Series 1 Corinthians Series
Kindness is something that nestles at the very hub or center of who we are as God's children. We were created by God to be kind in all of our relating and to do this for His glory. Being kind is living in such a way that fulfills the purpose of our existence. We fulfill that purpose when we are useful and we are useful when we serve others in accordance with God's word and for His glory. Our service and relating to people is not to be determined by anything they are or do. Rather, we are to relate to and serve them as unto the Lord, which means according to His will and revelation. The only way we are allowed to relate to people is according to God's principles, not according to our feelings or emotions. This is because man's ideas as to what is kind and God's ideas are very far apart. One serves man's agenda and kingdom and the other serves God's agenda and Kingdom. To be kind is to act in a way that fulfills our purpose in God's scheme of things. To be unkind is to fail to do and be the very thing we are meant to be. When we are unkind, our relevance for the Kingdom is, at best, zero, but to be kind in all of our relating is to achieve the very end and purpose that God had in mind when He ordained our existence. Thus, love is kind.
