The Doctrine of the Rapture Part 14 - The Type of Enoch
Series The Rapture Series
While the word "rapture" and its meaning (as to the "taking up" of the New Testament church) is not specifically taught in the Old Testament, it is well understood that hundreds of Old Testament scriptures foretell New Testament events. For example: one of the greatest sources of confidence in the Bible is the fact that it so accurately prophesied the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ centuries before the events took place.
In this episode (14 of our 18 part series) on the Biblical doctrine of the Rapture, Pastor James W. Knox explains the first example of a "type" or picture of the rapture of the New Testament church—through the Old and New Testament accounts of Enoch from Genesis 5 verse 24 and Hebrews 11 verse 5.
Enoch, a man who pleased God and walked with God, did not see death—for he "was not; for God took him" and "was not found". Brother James contrasts Enoch with the type and picture of Noah. Hebrews 11 makes it clear that Noah found grace when he had to build and prepare and labor and gather—for he would endure, with God's preserving hand, the time of punishments such as the world that never seen. Yet Enoch built no ark, he simply was "translated".
