Paul Testifies Before Agrippa II (Pt 6)
Series Acts of the Apostles
The Roman governor Festus heard Paul testifying before Agrippa II and accused Paul of being out of his mind. Paul's response was that he was rational and spoke words of "sober truth." Paul also stated that the King knew that these things were public truth since they were "not done in a corner."
This class shows from Luke/Acts that the events which comprise Luke's narrative are stated as profound, verifiable, facts which happened before witnesses. Luke tells us where and when the actions of God in history took place.
We discuss the contemporary tendency to downplay the truth by relegating religious claims to mere states of mind. The Bible claims that God created humans as rational people, bearing His image, and accountable to truth. We need reason so survive on the earth and cannot escape accountability to God by escaping from reason.
The apostles claimed that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead and that this event made all men accountable as Paul stated in his address to the philosophers in Athens. The gospel is both sober truth and public truth.
We are to boldly proclaim it and not be deterred by they semantic tricks which make all statements relative to the thinking of the person hearing them. The fact is we can know the truth and are accountable to God to believe the truth and turn to Him.
