You Have Not So Learned Christ

Brasilia is the capital of Brazil. In 2018, the government made the decision to shut down a toxic garbage dump that grew to the size of 250 football fields, some 300 acres.
This horrible and frightening dump was just a few miles from the beautiful buildings of the capital.
There were quite a few people who were very sad when this dump was closed.
About 2000 people, called catadores (collectors), survived by picking out the things of value they could find. This number included an estimated 150 children.
I use this as an illustration.
Given your house and job, would you ever choose to live as a garbage picker, a catadore?
Of course not. How ridiculous.
But something just as ridiculous is what tempts as believers – to walk and live in sin, to engage in the things you did before your conversion.
Why would you live this way?
The truth is that we are still tempted, and you can be deceived.

Our text has two main parts:

  1. Do not walk as the Gentiles walk, verses 17-19
  2. Put off, be renewed, and put on, verses 20-24
