Savior of the King

David the king, known in his day as David the warrior was also David the poet and David the musician. 2 Samuel 22 is a psalm. In fact, it is almost identical to Psalm 18. The author of 2 Samuel tells us that David spoke to the LORD the words of this song when He had delivered David from all his enemies and from Saul in particular. In fact, this psalm makes it clear that David did not take credit for his victories or his status. He gave the credit to the LORD. Very clearly, David the king repeatedly writes that the LORD is his savior.

As if describing the LORD as his savior was not enough, David also makes it known that the LORD is his personal savior. David is writing experientially. The LORD saved "me." Notice, too, the repeated use of the personal pronoun "my." Add to that the phrase, "the LORD delighted in me" and you have a savior intimately involved in the life of the one He rescued. Then, too, David writes about being restored and rewarded. The king, blameless after being cleansed and given a new heart, is given the wonderful rewards that all of us in Christ receive who have received His righteousness by faith - for David in anticipation of Christ and for us looking back on the accomplished work of Christ. We have so much to sing about!
