A Pointless Search for Meaning
Series Ecclesiastes
From Ecclesiastes 1:13: "I set my mind to seek and explore…all that has been done under heaven." King Solomon was looking for life's purpose… What do you have to do, to make a difference? Men & women still ask those questions, and I hope you've thought about them. Maybe you're asking right now. And maybe you have a cause or passion you're pursuing. The Preacher of Ecclesiastes wants you to consider his journey and his conclusions. This morning and next Sunday (Lord willing), we'll follow… Solomon's first four pursuits of meaning, and why they still aren't good enough: (today) i.) Wisdom. Solomon introduces his search for meaning. (1:12-18); ii.) Pleasure (2:1-11). After all, if it feels good, do it…right?; (next Sunday) iii.)More Wisdom (2:12-17). We'd still agree, the mind is terrible to waste. iv.) Career (2:18-26). Hey, nothing succeeds like success!
Solomon concludes, "been there – done that, not good enough…"
