Bible Translation, Female Disciples
Series The Gospel of Mark
Can we trust Bible translation at all? If we can't, then we had better all learn Hebrew and Greek fast. In our text, we see Mark including Jesus' words, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabacthani," in their original Aramaic that Jesus spoke them in. Then he translates them into Greek. We read them in English. If God cannot supervise this process in order to sucessfully transmit His Word, then we are in a lot of trouble. This is not to say that every translation is a good one or that all are equal, but it is to say that translation is a legit God-approved process. Secondly, we see that Jesus had female disciples. Lots of them. They followed Jesus and ministered to Him. There are many important lessons to be drawn from this -- not the least of which is that charges of chauvinism and misogyny made against the Bible have no merit.
