Feed My Sheep

This is more about Jesus than it is about Simon Peter. Jesus dealt with Peter's uncertainty by taking his mind back to when he was made an apostle. Then there was a sense of sin, and of divine power and grace. If we work for God we must have an attitude of humility and confidence in him. The shared meal reminds us that Christ may call us to rest with him awhile, that the main provision is his, but he also calls us into fellowship. God does not abandon his people or revoke his calling - our standing is based on his grace, not on our service. Personal salvation is both an end in itself and also a means to an end - Christ would have laid down his life for Peter anyway, but he also called him (and calls us) to serve others in his name. Finally, the story reminds us to concentrate on the task in hand - "What business is that of yours? You follow me."
