John: Greater Things than These

There is such a thing as personal spiritual growth. Jesus implied that in his parables of the kingdom. A new convert is likely to think he or she has 'arrived'. The experience may be wonderful. But there is more to come. WE find an example of that in Nathaniel, whose experience Jesus compared to that of Jacob at Bethel. The story includes Nathaniel's acknowledgement of Jesus and Jesus' verdict on him, but it also alludes to the ongoing work of grace including our understanding of Jesus and experience of his faithfulness.
