The Salt of the Earth

Jesus tells the disciples (and in other gospels the multitude) that they are the salt of the earth. We will examine what Jesus means by this and particularly what it means that once the salt has lost its flavor it becomes useless for the soil or manure pile and good for nothing except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. There is an application to every professing believer, to churches that are in danger of losing their saltiness, and to America, which has largely lost its saltiness already.
