Predestination to the Glory of God

Calvin's doctrine of Predestination has been pilloried in many different ways: that it was a "terrible decree" that produced melancholy and terror, and even that Calvin repented for teaching Predestination on his death bed! Is there any truth to these perceptions? Or, did Calvin link Predestination to the glory of God's saving grace in Christ?
