Ready for Christ's Return?

One of my recurring nightmares as a pastor is to arrive at church on Sunday morning unprepared! I am standing in the pulpit in my pajamas, thumbing through my Bible, looking for a text, hoping that an outline will come. And then I wake up and relieved that it was only a dream. I resolve never to arrive at that moment in a service unprepared. Jesus, before his death, resurrection, and ascension promised his faithful disciples that He would return for them and take them to be where He was going. The two angels at Jesus' ascension reiterated the promise thatJesus would come again in like manner-- a visible, bodily return to earth. The early church believed in the imminent return of Jesus Christ. That is, He could come at any time without warning! Nothing prophetically needs to be fulfilled before Christ's return. Jesus is coming! The question is: Are you ready to welcome the Savior on His return? Jesus expects us to be ready, properly dressed for service and prepared for the night! He expects us to be watching and waiting like servants that wait for their master or like a homeowner waiting for the thief to break-in their home! Jesus Christ is coming like a thief in the night when we least expect Him. So we need to be ready for His return, ready to welcome the Savior on His return. For ready or not, Jesus is coming!
