After having emphasized what Jesus Christ has done which has completed the process of salvation, a command to work out your salvation can be easily misunderstood. But the context of the passage puts it all together. Since Paul has just presented the finished work of Christ, he is obviously not commanding someone to earn his salvation. The whole purpose of Jesus Christ's leaving glory and coming to earth as a mere man and dying on a cross was in order to secure a perfect redemption for us. Therefore, the command of verse 12 cannot mean there is something we must yet do in order to accomplish or achieve our salvation. Jesus Christ provided salvation by his death. A lot of misunderstanding and unbiblical teaching would be cleared up if the context of verse 12 would always be kept in mind. To
