The Three Hates

I. Who is hating?
II. Why does the world hate?

1. Because we belong to Christ (vv. 18, 20)
2. Because we “are not of the world” (v. 19).
3. Because they know neither the Son or the Father and they hate both of them (vv. 21, 24; 16:3).
4. Because Christ testifies against them (vv. 22, 24).
5. Because they think their hatred actually pleases God (16:2, 3).
6. Lastly, it is ultimately without a true cause (v. 25).

III. What are we to do?

1. We must not fall away (16:1).
2. We must bear witness about Christ to a world that hates us (15:26, 27).
3. We must always remember these words (16:4).
