The Gospel in Moses & the Prophets

Can you imagine anyone being able to narrate a story about the person and work of Jesus the Nazarene without truly understanding its significance, nor believing it? Strangely enough, our passage this week shows us that this was the case with most of Jesus' disciples—until the Lord Jesus Himself appeared to them and helped them to see the truth of His own death, burial, and resurrection. Even more perplexing is how anyone could receive the Scripture of the Old Testament and not see this same Gospel message running through all of the Law and the Prophets. In this passage we learn that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all that the Jews, the ancient people of God, were to be looking to for redemption and glory.
