Psalm 126: Sowing in Tears, Reaping in Joy

In this message from Walking Through the Psalms, Dave Jenkins expounds Psalm 126, a Song of Ascents that teaches God's people how to live faithfully between past redemption and future restoration.
Psalm 126 speaks to believers who can testify to God's faithfulness in former days, yet find themselves still waiting, still praying, and still sowing in tears. The psalm calls us to remember the Lord's mighty works, to cry out to Him for renewal in dry seasons, and to trust His promise that faithful obedience—though costly—will one day give way to joy.
This sermon explores:
• Remembering God's past deliverance as worship that strengthens faith (vv. 1–3)
• Praying honestly for renewal while waiting on the Lord (v. 4)
• Obeying God faithfully through sorrow with confident hope (vv. 5–6)
Ultimately, Psalm 126 points us to Jesus Christ, who entered our exile, sowed in tears, endured the cross, and guarantees the final harvest of joy through His resurrection. Because Christ is our great High Priest, weary believers are invited to come boldly to the throne of grace, trusting that the Lord is not finished with the work of His hands.
