Jesus & The Sermon on the Mount - Matthew 5:17-20

As we continue in Matthew's Gospel and Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, this sermon highlights how every word and work of Jesus invites us to know, trust, and love Him as the King of the Kingdom. Jesus did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it, revealing both the goodness of God's commands and the depth of human sin, which leaves all people - Jew and Gentile alike - unable to achieve the righteousness God requires on their own. The Law exposes sin and leads us to Christ, who alone fulfilled its demands and bore its penalty through His death on the cross, so that we might be justified by faith rather than self-righteous striving. Through His resurrection and the gift of the Holy Spirit, believers are freed from condemnation, adopted as children of God, and empowered to live new lives marked by grace-enabled obedience. Because Jesus fulfilled the Law for us, we now walk not in fear or legalism, but in joyful dependence on the Spirit, living as redeemed sons and daughters who belong to Him forever.
