THE GOOD SAMARITAN, PART 1
SUMMARY: In the story of the Good Samaritan, which was given in response to a lawyer's challenge regarding how he might attain eternal life, Jesus presents essential gospel truths in relation to Himself.
I. THE "GRIE OF THE GOSPEL: A Law Man Cannot Keep.
A. The Opening Question: "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?"
B. The Repartee.
II. THE GRACE OF THE GOSPEL: A Consolation Man Cannot Earn.
A. On the personal level, the lawyer is condemned for not keeping the law perfectly.
B. On the National Level,
—The Jews were condemned for their failure to shepherd the people in love. Isa. 56:11; Jer. 10:21, 23:1-2; Eze. 34:7-8;
—God promised a coming Great Shepherd who would shepherd the people perfectly. Jer. 3:15, 23:4; Ezek. 34:15-16.
C. On the Spiritual Level.
