Prince of Peace

Prince of Peace
Text: Isaiah 8 & 9 (selected verses)

Summary: "Peace" -- it's on the minds of so many, especially during this season ― but what is true peace? Three simple but very biblical observations about true peace:

I. The Elusiveness of Peace.
A. It's Humanity's Grand Ideal.
B. Man by His Own Efforts Cannot Bring Peace.

II. The Inclusiveness of Peace.
A. There is in Scripture a Free Offer of Peace.
B. Yet few ever acquire it because they will not come to it God’s way.

III. The Exclusiveness of Peace.
A. Peace does not come to all. The Bible does not teach universal salvation. To the masses, Jesus proclaimed that He came to bring a sword, not peace (Mt. 10:34-36); yet at around the same time, to His disciples He was saying, “My peace I give to you” (Jn. 14:27).
B. Is. 9:6 excludes from true peace both the enemies of God outside of Israel as well as within Israel. Only the remnant will know peace. There will be no lasting world peace until the Satan and his forces are defeated. Until then, there will be a clash of kingdoms.
