Paul knew the Thessalonians were chosen because the word of the Gospel impacted them in power and with the full conviction of the Spirit, (1:5). Further, they received it with joy despite much affliction (1:6) and they became bold witnesses, sounding forth the word of the Lord throughout the area (1:7-10).
