Of The Lord's Supper (1)

The Lord's Supper, instituted by Christ on the night of His betrayal, serves as a perpetual proclamation of His death until His return, functioning as a covenant meal that both remembers and presents symbolically the sacrifice of Christ for believers. It confirms the faith of believers, spiritually nourishes and strengthens them in their union with Christ, and deepens their commitment to obedience and mutual fellowship within the church. The ordinance is to be observed in the context of the gathered church by duly authorized ministers, who bless and distribute the elements in a simple, reverent manner, affirming the spiritual presence of Christ rather than a physical or merely symbolic one. Participation requires self-examination, faith, repentance, and love, as unworthy reception—particularly by the ignorant or ungodly—invites judgment, while the worthy receive Christ's benefits through faith, lifting their hearts to Him in worship and communion.
