This passage, and other passages in the Bible, make clear that we must come before God in reverence and awe, not flippantly or casually. While breaking a vow (or any commitment) is not the unforgiveable sin some make it out to be, we should not break vows lightly, and thus we should not make vows before the Lord either lightly or hastily.
