Why Pray? God's Benevolence
Series Why Pray?
Unforunately, this recording is subpar. Much editing and amplifying was necessary.
We live in a broken world. We are broken people. What we deserve (on account of our sin - Romans 6:23) is punishment, wrath and death.
Everything then that we do have is a result of God's grace.
Our response to God's benevolence is gratitude. However, what determines the depth of our gratitude?
Our gratitude directly corresponds to the value of that which we have recieved.
When David says, "Forget not all His benefits," we typically understand this to mean that material things. However, the Hebrew points to the idea of favorable treatment.
So how has God treated us favorably?
- He forgives us
- He heals us (from the consequences of sin)
- He makes us valuable
- He gives us purpose
- He satisfies us
Because God las treated us with favor, we have recieved these 5 things. The only response is gratitude.
