Regeneration - the Work of the Holy Spirit

(An interesting side note: Pastor Steve had voice problems, so Pastor Jeff teamed with him for this sermon.)

The reason regeneration is not understood by many is – they do not understand Total Depravity.

I. The Change that Makes the Difference -- Romans 8:9-11
1. The body is dead – as we saw in chapter 6.
2. The Spirit of life has come – and has given new life.
3. The fact we have this new life now is the guarantee that our mortal bodies will be resurrected at the last day.

IV. The Holy Spirit in Regeneration
A. Effectual Calling (consists of two parts)
1. Calling
The gospel is preached to all sinners and salvation is freely offered to all.
2. Regeneration
This is the new heart that God gives the sinner.
This is life from the dead.
B. Regeneration IS NOT the same thing as Conversion.

V. The Scriptural Doctrine of Regeneration
A. Regeneration is not by the will of man. John 1:12-13

B.  When the Holy Spirit regenerates there are tell-tale signs.

C.  No man has the ability to regenerate himself.

D.  Regeneration is not by works, but by God's work
