Confessing The Lord of Glory

First a preliminary question must be asked and answered: 'Why did Paul regard it as inevitable that one who believes the gospel will also confess it?' While confession must be distinguished from faith, it cannot rightly be separated from it. Dr. Bacon proceeds to look at the nature of the truth of the gospel and how that leads inexorably to confessing that truth, the fact that the truth of the gospel changes everything in the believer's life, and the constraining power of the gospel in the believer's life. The effect of gospel faith on our daily lives is such that an expression of it is inevitable, then.

Second, the practical outworking of such a faith has profound impact upon the life and behavior of a believer. This outworking is the result of faith, and not faith itself.

1. Submission of the mind to the will of God.
2. Submission of one's will and behavior to God.
3. Belonging to the people of God and loving the assembly.
4. A concern for Christ's glory. While other matters can be outwardly performed by the hypocrite, a genuine concern for the glory of God comes only from a believing heart.
5. A readiness to testify of the saving work of Christ.
6. Refusal to be ashamed of him.

It is not a light matter to say Jesus is Lord (1 Cor. 12:3). If it is true that Jesus is Lord, then every other fact in the universe is subservient to it.
