Out of Exile, A Whisper of Christmas

No situation could seem more bleak than the final days of Jerusalem in the book of Jeremiah. The city is under the strangle hold of Babylon, the last four kings have been short lived and wicked and there is no glimmer of hope for the future. In fact, it would seem as if any covenant hope for Abraham or David will be snuffed out when the walls come down and the temple burns.

But out of this dark situation Jeremiah speaks of a future time when a righteous branch shall come forth for David to rule as king, to do justice, to save the people of God. Jeremiah calls him: Yahweh Tsidkenu - The Lord Our Righteousness.

But to whom does this coming messiah belong? Is he coming to save the physical sons of Abraham? Or are we to look for a spiritual salvation of spiritual sons drawn from every tribe and tongue and people?
