Contentment: Self-Denial in Action

Jeremiah Burroughs in his classic on Christian contentment (The Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment) points out that contentment is gained not by adding things to one's situation but by subtracting desires. True contenment comes through biblical self-denial not through self-esteem or self-indulgence. We should develope a Christ-sufficiency rather than an Others-sufficiency or a Self-sufficiency!
