Jesus & John: First Encounter

It is Christmas Eve. We gather to worship our Savior, and specifically to celebrate His coming into the world as one of us to save us from our sins. We have been looking at the first chapter of Luke together over the last few services. We have seen that Luke presents an orderly account, organized according to the logic of persuasion. The evangelist wants us to know the certainty of what we've been taught about Christ. And so he includes this scene, a moment when the story of John and the story of Jesus come together, to teach us about the blessing and the reversal of worldly status that results from the coming of Jesus Christ into the world.
