Colossians 1:1,2

Colossians 1:1–2 — Called, Sent, and Anchored in Grace

Paul opens this letter by establishing divine authority before offering personal warmth. He writes not as a self-appointed teacher, but as "an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God," reminding the reader that this message originates with God, not man. Timothy is named alongside him, emphasizing spiritual companionship and shared labor in the gospel.

The believers at Colosse are addressed as "saints and faithful brethren in Christ," affirming both their position and their practice. Before any correction, instruction, or warning is given, Paul grounds them in who they already are in Christ. The greeting closes with grace and peace from God the Father, setting the tone for the entire epistle. Everything that follows will flow out of God's grace and result in God's peace.
