The Church Under Construction

What do a baby and a brick have in common...? Peter is guiding us down the path of persevering faith, faith that stands firm in the face of persecution (note 5:12). The most recent step in 2:1-3 likened us to little babies. The point is a spiritual appetite that causes us to crave God's word and return to it over and over. As we read on to 2:4-10 Peter builds on the idea but changes his picture, from nurseries to temples, from growing to building, from the gospel word to the Living Word...from babies to bricks! Yet his theme is very similar: come to Jesus! Let's examine God's building project in His people, paying attention to three aspects of construction: i.) the project (vv.4-7); ii.) the problem (vv.7-8) iii.) the purpose (vv.9-10).
