"The Rise of the Papacy." Pastor addresses the extra-biblical pronouncements that Leo I, Gregory I, and Urban II made as they gradually and self-servingly advanced the cause of the papacy. This message is a brief look at how the "bishops" of Rome increased their power over the other "bishops", championed the rise of the role of "saints" and "relics" in the professed church and launched the First "Crusade" in 1095. Pastor notes that the "Crusades" were a disaster because they assumed you can "Christianize" people by force which violates the plain New Testament distinctive of the priesthood of the believer.
