That You May Believe

The Gospel of John, though selective in its accounts, is intentionally written to lead readers to faith in Jesus as the Christ, the promised Messiah, and the divine Son of God. Through this faith, believers receive eternal life—spiritual resurrection from spiritual death—already present and guaranteed; not earned but freely given through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Christ. This life we have through faith in Christ is a life that we have received through His death. In the Lord's Supper, we proclaim the death of the one who brought us life.
