Deceptive Allegiance to Money, Pt. 2
Series Discipleship and Money
Theme: Eternal destination is based on allegiance to Christ, through faith and repentance, not in serving self through money.
In vv. 24-26, the rich man, who is in anguish in hell, begs for water. There are no second chances in eternity. In vv. 27-29, he then begs for Lazarus to go to his family and warn them. Abraham answers that they have Moses and the prophets. We learn from this the importance of embracing Scripture as eternal truth for present and future joy. In vv. 30-31, the rich man begs for a resurrected messenger to be sent. Abraham replies that they would not listen. Those listening to the parable would learn of Jesus when He rose from the dead. All need to heed the words of the resurrected Christ.
Are you ready for eternity? Have you turned from your sin and trusted in Christ? Is that evidenced in the life you live? This parable seeks to be a warning to see if you are indeed a follower of Christ. If not, there is still time to repent and trust Him today!
