The Voice of One Mark 1:1-8 Mark declares from the outset that Jesus is the Son of God, a testimony that he gives throughout the book.Whenever notable people were to come to a city, the roads were repaired so their journey would be easier. The people of Israel were at that time in a "spiritual wilderness," and John had to get them ready for the arrival of the Son of God, the Servant.He wanted to lead them out of their spiritual bondage in a "second exodus" that would bring them salvation. John's ministry was effective and the people responded enthusiastically. However, the spiritual leaders did not repent and trust the Savior, and they eventually allowed John to be killed.John was the last of the OT prophets, and he presented the Messiah to the nation.The Lord speaks through the voice of His Spirit, who resides within us. We may have to seek His face for a season; other times, we can sense His direction immediately. No matter what, the Holy Spirit is a trustworthy guide.John was a lone voice against the dead legalism of the Jews.
He was a hard preacher in a dark day and God used him to touch a generation.
