Taking God as Your Partner_01
Series The Book of Psalms
Of the fifteen Songs of the Degrees this is the central one, having seven before it and seven after it. Two in the first seven, and two in the last seven are attributed to David; but this one is said to be of, for, or by Solomon. The Psalm is in two distinct parts (1, 2; 3-5), which some critics have regarded as two unrelated fragments; but there is a very real unity in the several themes of the Song. The underlying thought throughout is the uselessness of all human effort which does not rely on the will, power, and goodness of the Lord. We always need Jesus 24-7 in our lives and holding our hands. Especially in our marriage relationship. Four aspects of human life are presented: social, civic, business, and domestic; and the belief of the Psalmist is that each aspect must be a failure if God is excluded from it. And so four aspects of the Lord are presented. In our social life, He is the Builder of the house (1a). In our civic life, He is the Keeper of the city (1b). In our business life, He is the Renewal of the worker (2). And in our domestic life, He is the Blesser of the family (3-5).
