Jesus Sanctified Himself for Us

After Christ asks the Father to sanctify us in the truth he says, "for their sake I consecrate myself that they also may be sanctified in truth." "Consecrate" is the same word as "sanctify." While our sanctification requires redemption, Christ was sinless. Jesus' sanctification was His deliberate pursuit of the Father's will that He sacrifice Himself on the cross to redeem His people. Christ's sanctification is the basis on which we are sanctified.
