Israel and the Temple of Doom

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" was the title of a popular movie in a very popular and successful movie series several years ago. Although this was fiction the temple that is spoken of in this passage of Revelation is not, but some say that it is.
This is a difficult passage to interpret and there are two approaches which are opposite completely. Both would agree that Israel has fallen short of their responsibility to worship God.
