The Christian's Altar

The background for our passage is the Day of Atonement as set forth in Leviticus 16 and especially 16:27. The Christian's altar is to be understood in terms of the once for all, effectual sacrifice "of the body of Jesus Christ." The analogy of the bodies of those animals being burned "outside the camp" and Jesus suffering "outside the gate" is considered.
