Leaving, Longing, Growing

Peter is paving a path that points us towards a persevering faith, even in the presence of persecution. He started by praising our great and gracious salvation (1:3-5) and is headed towards the call to stand firm in God's grace (5:12). The next paving stone in the path of perseverance is Peter's encouragement to long for God's word as a baby craves its milk. To that end, our text in 2:1-3 can be unpacked like this: i.) the command (v.2 - long for); ii.) the condition (v.1 - put aside); iii.) the challenge (v.3 -
"if"). Simply put: you won't grow if you won't eat!
