Nehemiah: A Man of Prayer -- How to Pray Without Ceasing
Series Nehemiah series
Pastor Stoos highlights the prayers of Nehemiah in the final chapter of his book and asks whether we really believe what the Bible commands us regarding prayer: Do we pray without ceasing? Do we rejoice always? Are we anxious for nothing? Do we give thanks in everything?
Nehemiah is the great example of what a man of prayer should be and helps us understand what the Bible means when it calls us to such high standards. There are prayers throughout the Book of Nehemiah and it is a good exercise to highlight them. Doing so helps us see the Biblical concept of praying without ceasing as we see him in formal prayer and then a short unspoken prayer. Nehemiah constantly invokes His Covenant God in the events of his life. The other great lesson from Nehemiah is to remember that God is in control of EVERYTHING. There is no “natural” law or “natural” forces that can give us comfort and man's reason is certainly not up to the task. If we remember that God is in control, then we will also find ourselves always rejoicing.
Pastor Stoos goes on to show the Psalms as a great source of comfort and guidance for how to pray.
