How Can They?

At a glance this passage may seem to be out of place in context of the rest of the book of Romans. But in Romans 10:14-15 Paul states more plainly than anywhere else of his intention to make Rome his mission field. More than this, the text is a strong statement on the necessity of preaching and missions.

Anyone who will come to Christ comes as hears the words of Christ; however hearing Christ is not some subjective inward voice, but is objective - in that he hears the words of Christ through a herald - a qualified and appointed preacher sent by God.

Any true church must be mission minded and must preach.
