Zechariah's First Burden - Playing the Foolish Shepherd

Zechariah's first burden closed as it opened with the Lord calling His prophet to assume the role of a shepherd. But whereas Zechariah first represented Yahweh, the True Shepherd, in shepherding a flock marked out for slaughter, now he was instructed to play the role of a foolish shepherd - the sort of shepherd which had plagued Israel throughout its history, leading the Lord's flock into apostasy and eventual destruction.
