Going To Nineveh
Series For Such A Time As This
In this sermon drawn from Jonah 1–4, Pastor David and Pastor Jason call the church to awaken to its mission and return wholeheartedly to the God who saves. They begin by recalling how revival once swept through Enfield, Connecticut—not because of eloquence alone, but because God's people prayed earnestly. In the same way, they urge the church today to believe that God can move mightily again when His people repent, pray, and go.
From Jonah's story, they remind us that God sends His people to the lost, not to wait passively for others to come. Like Jonah, believers often resist this calling—whether from fear, indifference, or forgetting the grace once shown to them. Yet Christ Himself came to seek and save the lost, and He now calls His followers to join Him.
The sermon also gently warns that disobedience in God's people can bring storms, just as Jonah's rebellion endangered the sailors. But even these storms are merciful—God uses them to awaken us, purify us, and draw us back to Himself. From the belly of the fish, Jonah finally prayed, discovering that God hears even desperate prayers born of our own poor choices.
The pastors emphasize that God alone saves, appointing the means, the moments, and the messengers. Idols cannot rescue; only the Lord delivers. And when His people turn from idols and return to Him, He revives them.
The message ends with a plea: may the church become "a going church for a coming Lord," renewed in prayer, restored to obedience, and ready to carry the gospel to a waiting world.
