In Colossians 3:22-4:1 Paul instructs slaves and masters, saying that slaves must fully obey their earthly masters, not to please people but to please God, sincerely fearing the Lord. They are to work heartily as for the Lord, knowing that they will receive a reward, that they actually serve Christ, and that God is an impartial judge. Paul instructs masters to exercise authority justly and fairly, because masters are also under authority.
