The Acts of Receiving Christ

In both the usages of these words, receive and accept, it appears to me that Paul is trying to show these Corinthian believers the active part that each of them had in their receiving his preaching of the gospel to them. They listened to his preaching and faithful representation of Jesus. They received his representation of Christ's perfectly righteous life, which fulfilled God's holy law. They listened to him preach Christ and Him crucified; His sufferings and sacrificial death as the basis of their believing in Him and receiving the free gift of salvation; that it was of grace through faith and not of themselves, but it as the gift of God to them. It was not of works, either moral or ceremonial that they would be, or were, saved And that it was in believing, accepting, and receiving this gospel they were most certainly saved, and thereby received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
