Adoring God

Jewish and Christian commentators typically treat the Song of Songs as an allegory. Yet, the problem with allegory is that it makes the interpretation of this book wildly subjective and arbitrary. I take the approach that it is a dramatic poem based on a historical event. It is inspired by the Holy Spirit and is thus applicable to us today. How, then, do we approach this text? How do we apply an ancient dramatic love poem to our lives today and do so in a sober manner?
