Importance of a Good Reputation

Does it matter what outsiders think of Christians? In one sense, no. We live for the approval of God, not men. On the other hand, it does matter. Scripture says much about having a good reputation with outsiders. How do we get a good reputation with a world that hates us? By godly character and integrity and by treating everyone with grace and respect and consideration. In short, by loving our neighbor as ourselves. All men like to be treated well, and by treating them well, we can gain a good reputation. The Bible tells us to live for the glory of God, but it does not leave us with a vague generality. It gives very specific and concrete examples of how we are to glorify God. This sermon focuses primarily on our speech and the way we are to talk.
